The Power of RateMyPlacement

RateMyPlacement is a website that primarily serves as a search engine for students looking for industrial placement opportunities. However, the potential use cases for students looking to get the most out of the service is unmatched.

Once signed up with RateMyPlacement, you will get a personal dashboard where you will be recommended roles based on those that you have expressed interest in. This feature, as well as recommendations of company profiles, is very useful.

If you are selective with the first few placements that you save and search for, you will receive great recommendations, often for companies that you will have never considered.

Through RateMyPlacement alone, we would assume that any given prospective placement student would be able to find 20+ suitable roles with no hassle whatsoever.

How to get the most out of RateMyPlacement

Set up an account

While you can use RateMyPlacement without being logged in, we strongly recommend you sign up and make sure you are logged in whenever you use the service.

The insights you'll receive through the MyHub feature are tailored to you and can often surprise you in relevance.

Not only this, but you can save searches for later and even save reviews that have stood out to you.

Search for roles, not companies

We all have companies that we know and we would love to work for. However, these positions may not always be open and the company may not offer a suitable role for you.

We strongly advise that you prioritise searching for roles rather than companies. Check if you feel that you are aligned with the company mission after finding out whether the role would be suitable.

Read reviews

RateMyPlacement holds over 45,000 reviews.

Read them.

Quite often, students write in great detail on the roles that they have been offered. You may find that a role is 100% not for you, or be reinvigorated to find it is more suited than you previously thought.

However, don't take all of the reviews at face value. Read between the lines and remember that they have been with the company for a year, they are likely to hold a certain perspective from the outset.

Use as confirmation that you are applying for the right roles

Sometimes, students have an idea of what they want to do and quickly match it up to a role. But that role may not always be what they initially thought of it.

Likewise, you may have certain presumptions about a certain position, use RateMyPlacement to question those presumptions. When looking at company job descriptions you may find that it was not what you initially thought it to be.

Use the filters

This is a simple one but, spend 30 seconds filtering the search down to roles that are actually applicable to you. It will save you a lot of time later.

Sign up to their Email Options

When logged in, go to the Contact Preferences tab of the dashboard and pick and choose from the content types that are on offer.

We recommend that you enable the "Advice Content" and the "Job Alerts" specifically. This will give you some further insight into how to smash interviews as well as alert you when a job that their systems think would be a good match for you is listed on the site.
